  •  For anyone who missed it, the impetus (22+ / 0-)

for this GBCW was this comment; more specifically, the pushback against its closing accusation that The Troubadour, a Kossack in good standing and a Jew, is echoing the notorious anti-Semitic tract The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Many Kossacks--Jew and Gentile--strongly object to the diarist's use of a vile accusation like that as though it were a garden-variety "insult."

    I'm one of them.

    This is frakkin' nonsense (17+ / 32-)

In general it is nonsense and in particular THIS... is nonsense:

The reason for this disproportionate, obsessive focus on Israel with no regard for U.S. troops in Afghanistan? Simple: AIPAC and the "pro-Israel" lobby's ill-founded concern about the Hagel nomination coupled by the lobby's disproportionate influence on our representatives to echo that concern.

    Stephan Walt... is that you?

First of all, you ignore Republican obstructionist efforts with regards to any nominee of the President. They are looking for ANYTHING to smack Hagel over the head with no matter what the subject is, and Hagel... did himself no favors talking about things like the "The Jewish Lobby".

This was a grandstand by the Republicans to gain traction with both Jewish voters (a group that overwhelmingly votes Democratic but has shown a slight slip in %'s (78% in 2008 down to 70% in 2012) AND with their own fundamentalist base, who are yearning for another version of the Crusades so that they can settle issues with "teh ebilz Mooslims" once and for all.

But even more to the point... AIPAC has been silent on this issue. Here is the Jerusalem Post

But what’s even more confusing is how quickly so many Jewish groups – especially AIPAC – have caved on Hagel. The same man who said that Israel didn’t need to “keep Palestinians caged up like animals,” and famously spoke of “the Jewish lobby’s” intimidation of lawmakers on Capitol Hill has been handed a get-out-of-political-purgatory-free card by many who claim to be Israel’s foremost defenders.

Or how about this from the Daily Beast:

Notably absent from the cast of critics: the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, Washington’s largest and most well funded pro-Israel lobby.

The powerful lobby, which doesn’t typically shy away from a fight, has decided to sit this one out, say several House and Senate staff members, as well as some pro-Israel activists in Washington.

“Staffers and members are trying to find out what AIPAC thinks of Hagel, and we are not getting anything,” one Senate Republican staff member said. Another Senate staff member said, “AIPAC will be sitting this one out.”

AIPAC spokesman Marshall Wittman didn’t comment directly on its strategy regarding Hagel’s nomination. “Our position remains the same as it always has been,” said Wittman. “AIPAC does not take positions on presidential nominations.”

    And this nonsense:

But when the hawkish, "pro-Israel" lobby in America can influence our representatives to sound as if they – well – are representing Israel's citizens more than our own?

We have a problem. A problem that must be discussed openly and honestly.

Gets you a donut because honestly this sounds like shit that is straight out of "The Protocols"

    Emphasis added.

It's impossible to make sense out of the present GBCW diary and unusually rapid bojo without this context.

The bulk of his comment was fine: I disagree, but it was reasonable. The last line was over the top and wrong, but I Hr 'content free invective'.

As it was, most didn't uprate his subsequent comments which were angry and just filled with insults. This overreaction seals the bojo deal. Which is a shame, because you could - most the time - have a legitimate debate with this diarist

One more thing I'd like to point out before I leave this car crash. I I find it odd that someone who is always saying you don't want people banned and welcome dissent, you seem to be doing exactly the opposite by including the upraters and downraters in your comment

Smacks to me either of conscious hypocrisy. Or just complete lack of self awareness.

I wasted my time trying to facilitate a cool-down from this comment. 20/20 hindsight.

    •  And the fact is... (8+ / 0-)

that volleyboy1 holds longstanding animosity toward The Troubadour. The "straight out of The Protocols" slur is actually quite restrained if you're familiar with some of vb1's commentary at the site where he most frequently x-posts. The present diary, with its invocation of "Kapo," gets to it more directly. Ugly stuff, all of which belies the fiction of vb1's flameout as some sort of noble martyrdom.

      •  AM, first the site that VB cross posts to... (0+ / 0-)

... is his blog with a specific title which defines its mission.  If people go to that site to pick a fight, and they get their fee-fees hurt - then that's not VB's problem.  Because TT and VB are both members of this site, doesn't mean that if TT goes to VB's site and stirs things up that VB can't respond in any manner in which he desires.

Secondly, in response to another comment I checked out VB's comments specifically in TT's diaries "over the last few months".  I didn't see an example where VB was being "dickish" in those diaries.  I certainly didn't see any examples of what may be considered "stalking".  Did VB engage in the diaries, yes.  Did VB state a clear opinion on the topic at hand, yes.  Did VB take a pro-Israeli stance, yes.  I don't see a problem with any of that.

I haven't been here long enough to be considered a Kossack, does that mean that I'm just a sack?

The Troubadour hasn't commented there, so it's not a question of TT "stirring things up."

          •  So what is the point about what he posts... (0+ / 0-)

... at his blog-site named to specifically reference the subject matter?  Have you commented there and did he disagree with you?  If you did and he did, so what?  He's not bound by the terms of DKos on his own blog, he's only bound by them here.

And if YOU went to his blog and posted comments which he hammered you on, BFD, you went to his site - you knew what would happen.  And more importantly, even if he did hammer you there, it is not something which is supposed to have bearing on this site - it's one of the rules.

... and looking at "the facts" is interesting to me.  It's how we learn about each other and each other's points of view.  So you've piqued my curiosity with regard to "the facts" as you see them.
