  •  Geese and swans are even (5+ / 0-)

    more dangerous.

Srsly, my father was traumatized by a goose biting him when he was about four...

and swans are seriously scary when they're chasing you b/c you made the mistake of canoeing down the river while they were in nesting season.

    •  My mom was attacked by a chicken (6+ / 0-)

when she was about 8 - she never got over it.  To this day she REALLY enjoys eating chicken.

I know about geese, hadn't heard about swans but can imagine. My girls aren't too scary but they are quick!

      •  Swans happened to us... (2+ / 0-)

we were canoeing down the river toward Riverhead, Long Island.  The river wasn't very wide...more of a large creek, really.  Or narrow river -- I don't know how they decide these things.

All I know is, all of a sudden there was a pair of swans.  And one -- I think the male -- comes toward our canoes.

We paddled away from him as fast as we could...for about half a mile before he lost interest and swam away.

Anybody who doesn't believe birds are dinosaurs has never paid attention to the behavior of birds.

        •  So funny, these ducks (0+ / 0-)

When the ducks see a cat crossing the yard, they start quacking and then they lower their heads almost to the ground and start bobbing up and down as they waddle menacingly towards the cat. Then it gets even funnier. The cat stops, the ducks stop and they just look at each other face to face and then nothing happens. They all just shrug and go about their business.
