    •  Amen to that! (6+ / 0-)

As a member of one Kansas county who votes consistently Democatic every single election, I resent the above two statements.  And if anyone thinks their state is immune, I think they've got their heads in the sand.

I may be worried more than many right now because my Mom is quickly getting to the point where we will need to avail ourselves of services WE paid for but Brownback stripped.

Furthermore, while I'm nearing what should be MY retirement age, I'm trying to work to maintain our household and help my mother.  However, the only job I can find is a 45 minute commute each way.  Add in chores and errands for Mom after work, and I'm 12-14 hours a day away from home.

I mention this because, while I've got "great" insurance from the fed gov't, I'm in constant chronic pain.  I desperately need hip surgery, but because our family income has been cut by 2/3, I can't afford to pay the copays on this great insurance.  And now I worry the PTB are going to next clamp down on pain meds - the only thing that allows me to keep up this schedule.

Thing is, I'm not alone in this mess.  We've got people communting from Lawrence and Topeka... not just KC.  Some are in wheelchairs or using canes, like me.  And every single one of -us- have voted democratic all our lives.  In fact, we have one who marched with Dr. King!

So I DO get infuriated at the callousness of comments like:

Yup - the crazies were elected
and the electorate deserves all the pain it's going to get.
Because when all is said and done, and the republicans and libertarians finally figure out that the Articles of Confederation gave way to the Constitution for a REASON, I don't think it's too much to hope that our brothers and sisters in arms in other "less red" states would reach out to those of us stripped, humilated, and yet still getting up every morning continually trying to turn the tide!
      •  I sincerely don't wish this fate on any state or (7+ / 0-)

anyone. My point was simply that perhaps Republican small government types will only come to terms with the fact their their entire world view leads to stagnation, higher mortality rates and higher, not lower costs of living, when they are finally able to live their dream that becomes a nightmare.

I am a Virginian who returned to Virginia almost 15 years ago to be closer to family and my husband and I planned to retire here. But, every day I turn around and find some horrible new policy or practice put into place by McDonnell and the Republicans who dominate the statehouse as they pass their ALEC and far right wing agenda. Unless the state makes a turnaround, we have completely lost our desire to remain here. People can and do make choices about where they live. Everyone I know in the DC burbs prefers to live in Maryland right now as opposed to Virginia.

Right now the litmus test for Republican Red State stupidity combined with cruelty and callousness is the governors denying their states the Medicaid expansion offered under the ACA. They literally prefer that people die as opposed to providing life-saving government services. Disgusting.

“Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough.” FDR
