  •  we weren't talking about it much in '86-'88 in (5+ / 0-)

    Texas w/ r/ t criminal justice.

The last time I was held hostage in somebody else's murder trial DNA didn't even get a mention (covered the courthouse beat in Howard County, including a District Court trial for murder for one of seven indicted co-defendants).

More modern juries are a lot more ... CSI-minded, for lack of a better word.

    •  lol A defense attorney I know says that it's made (6+ / 0-)

things a lot harder on prosecutors, (good!), because juries expect all the bells and whistles and airtight cases they've seen on CSI. Blessings on an alert, informed and demanding jury pool.

      •  And if that is real, (0+ / 0-)

then CSI just gained a lot of respect in my world.
I have no use for Tv, particularly cop shows, but if this one has raised awareness of forensic techniques and rules of evidence that juries didn't previously know about, that's a huge service to Justice.

If I ran this circus, things would be DIFFERENT!

        •  They still do a lot of procedural cop stuff that's (0+ / 0-)

bogus and very unhelpful about rules of evidence, but apparently the actual forensic and DNA evidence they're getting pretty up on and ask why it's not up to the standards they're seeing on the CSI's.lol  And the CSI programs do at least nod towards integrity of the system and come down on cheaters, so that's to be grateful for.
