I think that every ignorant right-winger should be made to write the above on a blackboard 10,000 times.

    •  But they don't know that (6+ / 0-)

Communism isn't a religion.  They don't know that Facism and Socialism are incompatible, that a Commie Nazi is an oxymoron.  Or oxymoran.

They don't even know that Medicare is a government program they can't keep the government out of.

I'm not looking for a love that will lift me up and carry me away. A love that will stroll alongside and make a few amusing comments will suffice.

because of Jeremiah Wright, but also secretly an evil Moooooslim from Kenya! These people don't have to make a lick of sense. Stupid is as stupid does.

Just doing my part to piss off right wing nuts, one smart ass comment at a time.

Why not?  Is there something in Islam that prohibits communism?

      (No, seriously, I don't know.)

      •  Communism prohibits ALL religion.... (0+ / 0-)

Liberation Theology notwithstanding, all of the powerful Communist governments never had much tolerance for any religion.

In fact, the reason the Party of God fought off the Soviets in Afghanistan was due to their repression of religion.

Today's Chinese government is Communist in only name only is doing a good job punishing Muslims in that country.

        •  I don't think it does, strictly speaking. (0+ / 0-)

Marxism had nothing good to say about religion, to be sure, but that doesn't mean communism as a system prohibits it.  Any more than communism insists on having no free press, despite the fact that pretty much no communist country has ever had one.

There have been religious kibbutzim.  (Also, wikipedia tells me that "Christian communism" is a thing, which I did not know.)

Whether or not a government with this approach has ever existed (or would succeed), it's certainly possible to be both a Muslim and a communist by philosophy.

          •  No doubt some have existed in Egypt & Iran (0+ / 0-)

I've read anecdotal accounts of such people.  Very courageous.

A Muslim/ Communist government, however, doesn't seem possible in the near future.

In fact, the Muslim Brotherhood is very pro-free market.  They are like Randians who believe in Allah.  Very discouraging.

            •  I agree with you (0+ / 0-)

that such a government (both Muslim and Communist) doesn't seem likely anytime soon -- possibly ever, barring any radical shift in Muslim practice/philosophy.  An individual, though, could certainly be both.

Actually, come to think of it, an individual could be both even if they were directly contradictory -- either by not grasping the contradiction, or by choosing not to hold one or another of the contradictory tenets of the belief system.
