  •  Is this Square One art? (6+ / 0-)

My daughter's school participates in their fund-raising program.  Square One provides essentially a blank sheet of paper on which the kids create art.   The school returns it to Square One and parents can then order products like cups, pot holders, etc., that feature their child's art.

We have participated in this and the copyright aspects never occurred to me.  I always figured Square One was simply providing a service, and I was fine with the school receiving funds for its role.

So I just checked.  Fortunately, they are clear that the student (artist) retains ownership but reserve for themselves the right to use that artwork to promote their services royalty-free.   Eh, that doesn't seem fair.  At the least, I would think they should have to ask for permission.
