  •  This is a fantastic diary! Wish I could rec' and (15+ / 0-)

tip a million times.  And the comments are just as insightful.

I quite often travel alone because I like not having to coordinate or agree with another.  I have been doing this since I was a teenager. I like being alone.  And I have faced, and faced down, quite a few of the situations mentioned in the comments.

And everyone from my mother to my best friend has been critical of my choices.  So you would think I'd understand another's need to be alone.

Yet, it's funny how our minds and emotions work.

My daughter and son both travel alone, sometimes in cities, but more often in wilderness.  My daughter is a loner like me and needs the time apart.  My son is not a loner but when he goes into the woods, he goes alone.  I worry - I worry a lot - even though I know they are both well trained and capable.  I wish they wouldn't do it alone.  They laugh at me and remind me that I am as alone in my own home as they are on a trail.

Perhaps my saving grace is that I worry about both of them.  It isn't a gender thing.  I feel they are both in danger.   Ludicrous, really, but I cannot shake the worry.
