I've been on alert in Spokane when it hit 26 degrees below for three nights running. You guys with the guns and the fur trimmed parkas kept walking perimeter around our nuke-loaded bunch of bufs. Occasionally the head cop on shift would give one SP a break inside the heated flight line truck, while another hit the perimeter trail. I don't see how you survived, sane, anyway. Thanks for doing it.

"Chinese underwear" was a godsend back in the day -- quilted stuff with a satiny outside and a sweatshirt-fleece kind of lining. Also, pantyhose. (Which, as a girl, I enjoyed the living daylights out of watching the shift super NCO handing out to shivering guys to keep them warm. In the days of the dinosaur, pantyhose were polypro.)

But yes, sometimes the nights got long, cold, and full of odd sounds around the backside of the flightline... you guys, up in the airplanes, had it tougher than we did. We could always hike around in circles to stay awake.

      •  Actually, that is traditional Chinese Underwear (0+ / 0-)

And outer wear, for Autumn to Spring.

The best is pure silk, i.e., silk fabric on both sides and silk fiber filling for the quilting, because it's warm, light and breathes.

In fact, Mrs koNko is wearing her quilted winter pajamas right now as we prepare for the Spring Festival (Lunar New Year) starting tomorrow night and watch the snow outside.
