    The person in the family who is identified as being the problem. However,  familial disfunction has many parents, so to speak, and a health professional must look into the ways the family's behavior has led to the "identified patient's" being brought to treatment, to see how much of the matter is actually from the "identified patient" and how much is from other sources.

    The questions I have based on this reading of the tale, are this: if he's assualted his step-mother, where is his mother? What issues does her absence play in his violent behavior? What issues has his step-mother's presence brought into his life? This seems to me where a health professional would start looking into these matters.
