Weekly newspapers will be mauled by this change.  Most of the well-run ones have managed so far to, relatively speaking, dodge what's hitting the metro papers, because small town ads are more effective and small town newspapers are generally pretty customer-oriented.

But a great many of them run a similar schedule; deadline Thursday, ship Friday, deliver Saturday.

This will be impossible under the new Post Office schedule.  And a Wednesday deadline means in most cases less timely news coverage and two days stranded before the weekend.  A lot of small town papers will be forced by this change to choose between leaving money and quality on the table with an earlier deadline, or putting a lot of money on the table that drains from quality so as to hire their own carriers.

    •  Papers will have to publish on monday... (0+ / 0-)

So they can get delivered on friday. Thanks to the last round of postal cutbacks the weeklies in my area had to publish and mail a day earlier, this will be the last straw for many newspapers.
