  •  Salazar was a disaster for wild horses (4+ / 0-)

He allowed aggressive helicopter roundups, which included stampeding horses stressed by drought conditions, including pregnant mares and foals.  He allowed auction of these horses to known kill buyers,  who then shipped the cheaply purchased mustangs to Mexico for slaughter.  All of this done under BLM's policy of protecting wild mustangs.  I call horseshit.  Good riddance.

    •  feral horses are the disaster, feral cats maybe? (0+ / 0-)

Reading about Jewell, she seems to have spent much effort as an activist protecting/restoring habitats. I'm impressed, and will be, until such time as she gives me reason to feel otherwise.

and they have developed a management plan. This after the scandal of 1700 wild horses sold for meat in 2009.

      •  well that's good news, unless it's not (0+ / 0-)

This guy Tom Davis, referenced in the article, is still, last I heard, purchasing horses.  But I may not have the most recent info.  More disturbingly, this guy has long term connections with Salazar.  Salazar has been asked about this relationship, and Davis' buying of horses for slaughter, and he has refused to respond.
