  •  My wife and I have discussed buying a snow blower (9+ / 0-)

for the once-in-two-or-three-years storms that can't be shoveled. But thrift has prevailed thus far.

Expert snow shoveling tip: spray the shovel with WD-40. The snow won't cling to the shovel.

Economics is a social *science*. Can we base future economic decisions on math?

    •  :-) The only "good thing" (6+ / 0-)

... about old age, a messed up back, and a body full of degenerative arthritis (one knee already replaced, the other needs to be done, too) is that when I hear the weather forecast for a nasty snow (or even just a skiff of snow sometimes), I go to the store, stock up on groceries, come home, hunker in, usually under my electric throw/blankie, and stay indoors until after I hear the landlord's winter guy shovel/snow-blow the sidewalk.

I have no physical ability left to do all that heavy stuff (and doing that stuff is partly why I have problems now), but a big grain shovel I used to have in the trunk of my car is in the closet if anyone else wants to use it.

      •  During our last snow-pummeling in (7+ / 0-)

upstate NY, I broke my coal shovel clearing the driveway. The blade snapped right off the handle.

I went out to Ace Hardware and bought one o' them fancy air-go-nomical crooked handle thingies. Been itchin' to try 'er out.

I'm not supposed to be shoveling, but my wife with her ankylosing spondilitis is worse off than me with my 3 trifling disc surgeries.

It must be done. I must do it. Boo-yah.
