IOW, they come to accept torture w/o even realizing it.

(note that the heading of this post should probably have said "evil genius of it" - but that might be troll rateable by the hard core pro-torture Obama supporters . . .).

    •  I saw "24" - every show. (0+ / 0-)

And I'm no closer to supporting torture than I was before it.

      •  Quite frankly, just because you have (0+ / 0-)

poor TV viewing habits, I'm not sure that there is any larger implications to that.

Heck, I watch My Cousin Vinny every time it comes on TBS at 2 AM and am no closer to moving to Alabama.    But, so what?

fact, it was bad enough that the commander of West Point personally invited Kiefer Sutherland himself to come down and give the cadets an anti-torture speech because that was the only thing that would work.  So what do you think is going to happen with Zero Dark Thirty which is supposed to be (mostly) non-fiction?

You have watched Faux News, now lose 2d10 SAN.

of low info people, and most folks in this country are. the movie implies that torture helped to catch OBL. to low info folks, ends justify the means is a powerful argument.

and this particular argument's being made by "liberal" hollywood in the low info folks' minds...

that's the danger. and it is a very real danger.

let me chime in with my confusion over that meme.

Heck, I really can't name a single other entity that has done more to brainwash the average American to accept (embrace?) the MIC than Hollywood . .. .

I really didn't realize (/pay attention) to this before Top Gun came out, but since then it's been crystal clear to me . .... . but most Americans simply can't handle the truth (If I'm allowed to mix metaphors/movie references rather freely)

          •  Nobody's trying to brainwash anybody. (1+ / 0-)

They're just trying to make money by putting out a product.  If somebody gets "brainwashed" in the process they can't be held responsible.

to brainwash is in the forefront

For example, Top Gun was essentially when I started paying attention to this type of thing (which was in the pre-internet era, so sorry, I don't have any links) but it was no secret back then that the Navy allowed the film makers to use their planes (etc) because they movie projected a positive mindset for them (essentially, plenty of free advertising, how convenient!).

Back then, it was equally no secret that the Navy (or any other military branch) would NOT have let their materials be used in a similar manner if the movie in question would have had an anti-military message

          •  it's just the RW noise machine trying to... (0+ / 0-)

successfully brand the folks that individually tend to be supportive of Democrats...

and the propaganda has been so successful that the low info folks think that if it's not action or horror, then Hollywood puts out mostly liberal leaning films...

and the low info folks tend to buy this crap...

that's why ZDT worries me greatly...

        •  It's still not cut and dried. (0+ / 0-)

What is "torture?"  And if we knew torture of Himmler would get us to Hitler, then what?

I've seen a great many prison documentaries.  And I really believe that it's torture just being there.  Prison life is much, much worse than most think.
