  •  That is a good point. (11+ / 0-)

They aren't trying to sell anything new, but they think that by presenting it a different way people will think it is all new and improved and different. A new brand doesn't mean a new product.

If you compare it to cigarettes, it's kind of like how they tried to ignore the cancer causing problems and just show how manly you could be by smoking their cigarettes.

But it goes a different way, too. They don't really seem to mind that the crazies have their ideas on social issues, they just want them to keep quiet about their ideas.

I listened to NPR this afternoon, and there was a spokesperson from the CrossRoads PAC talking about what they were trying to do. It isn't so much that they want to present what Akin and the others said in a different light so much as it was that if they were to run someone with those views that they would expect them to keep their mouths shut on abortion and women's issues. They want to emphasize the economic issues, as they think that it is the economy that they can win on.

You can't parade crazies as sane people - they are unpredictable.  Unfortunately, sane people can't believe in the party line, not convincingly.

The Republicans are so fixated on one issue publicly and another behind the scenes (they scream "economy!" but legislate wombs) - and neither will help America.

        We see behind their ruse.
