    what are clearly bad actors.  Your argument is absurd.  In the S&L scandal there were thousands of criminal prosecutions, and the level of criminality back then was a fraction of what it is now.

      What did I say that sounds like an apologia?  All I said was that successful prosecutions take time.  

      To your comparison with the S&L crisis.  The roughly 1,100 criminal prosecutions (more than a thousand is not "thousands") related to the S&L crisis took place over a ten year period, with most of them occurring almost a decade after the crisis itself.
