  •  The innocent joy in that! (7+ / 0-)

I took my grandsom on his first, very short train ride from Encinitas to San Juan Capistrano.

He was so filled with glee in the train station, just beside himself, jumping with anticipation, that all the adults in the elevator lit up with smiles.

Thank god for little children reminding us of how fun something can be if we pay attention.

For time and the world do not stand still. Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future. (JFK)

    •  ;) Another sort of train story... (8+ / 0-)

Joshua Bell performs in the subway, as a social experiment in context, perception and priorities

The violinist in the video played for about 45 minutes, and had over 1,000 people walk by. Few paused to listen, fewer reached into their pockets for change. The most poinient of observations--little kids who pulled on their parent's hands to stop and listen, only to be pushed along in order to catch a train.
Kids are usually so un-affected.  Yes, thank god for the little children and the reminders of the joy in life and beauty they can bring us, if we pay attention.

we took our two grandkids (then about 4 and 7, I think) on a train trip from Seattle to Portland. On the way down they had a great time, coloring at our table and watching out the windows as the state of Washington rolled by.

On the way back they were ready to get home, but once we were underway they conked out and slept most of the way home.

I would love to take the grandkids on a train trip to Disneyland sometime, but it'd be pretty expensive and I think they'd get restless long before the trip was over.

If you can't say anything nice about the GOP, please post here more often.
