    •  who will deliver? (6+ / 0-)

I worked for USPS for more than 20 years, most of that time in a small town post office with 2 rural routes. Each route was over 100 miles. If the rural carriers are not going to deliver the mail on Saturday, how would it make sense to have them come in to deliver a 10-20 packages?

OK, so maybe one carrier could come in and deliver packages for both routes, or maybe he could also drive to a neighboring post office and deliver packages for 1 or 2 of that office's routes.  But how many miles would he have to drive?  There is no efficiency of scale delivering  a few packages scattered over hundreds of miles.
