for people unaccustomed to losing. Sheesh, what's it been? Three decades? That's quite a streak.

Anyway, the machine they worked so very long and hard to put into place, is finally breaking down.

It is time for Karl Rove to retire. Get out of the game. He's just becoming more of an embarrassment all the time.

We should be hoping for lots of very well compensated, extremely ineffective political work by Karl Rove for a very long time. I want to see "Bush's Brain" start a losing streak longer than the Washington Generals basketball team.

professional athletes, and amateurs at high levels, have long had the knack of stepping down when they're still at their peak, or not far past. This is because everyone accepts that the body goes. Being 38 is not like being 18, and never will be.

On the other hand, people in other fields, in many cases, have a very hard time with decline, and "losing it." Society abets them in the belief that they will go on forever. (Heh, Mick Jagger, anyone? He probably should have ceded the stage when I was in high school...and I'm 47:) Karl Rove may be a perfect example of this.
