    They can't stuff the toothpaste back in the tube.  Their base is rabid, anti-intellectual, bigoted and frightened.  They don't give a crap about 'the bigger picture' and they have been taught that bi-partisanship is 'date rape'.  They have created that problem themselves.  Finding reasonable 'establishment' candidates is not going to work.

      There is a significant proportion of TPers, to be sure, but I doubt it's really a majority of their base. The "problem" is that there is really a fine line between mainstream Republicans and TPers these days. While that may sound like a good thing to us, what it means in practice is that they only need to dial back the crazy just a touch to get all the TPers on board with whomever is running.
