much a comment on current affairs, but one that I nevertheless was glad to hear was at a Methodist church in downtown Fort Worth in the early 1960's. It was on Sunday evening and I was with a friend and not familiar at all with the Methodist rituals. I had finally settled myself for a long sermon, when the preacher said something like this: "Let us bow our heads. Oh Lord, have mercy on us." We all said "amen," and he said "Good Night." That was it. Short and sweet.
