    where per capita firearm ownership is lowest, the greatest frequency firearm related homicide per capita occurs.  In contrast, rural areas correlate with higher frequency of firearm suicide.  Am J Public Health. 2004 October; 94(10): 1750–1755.

    Though I gather you now agree that the weather:climate change relationship is not a useful comparison here, the larger point is to look more closely at data and research that identifies other independent variables with better positive correlations to different types of firearm related violence.
