  •  Tea Party, TeaPublican, Republicon... what's the (6+ / 0-)

difference?  They're all one and the same, and voters won't give a damn about the label.  Sure, the Freeps might be bent out of shape that their little corner of the Republicon party is becoming more and more marginalized to the point of being insignificant, but what does that mean to the avg. Repub voter?  D!ck, that's what.  And, what does it mean to us, the opposition?  The same.
Regardless what colors Rubio wears in 2016 he's going to be a force to be reckoned with!  Or not.  That remains to be seen.  But, it won't matter squat
what colors he's wearing.  Voters aren't keeping score.

When the true believers get disillusioned, they not only don't show up to vote, they bad-mouth the party (possibly generating wider circles of discouragement) and fight over control of local orgs (disrupting party GOTV and publicity efforts).

To a certain extent, the party establishment can compensate by throwing more money at the problem, but this only goes so far.

On the Internet, nobody knows if you're a dog... but everybody knows if you're a jackass.

    •  Oh, the Tea Party sees a difference. (0+ / 0-)

They see a BIG difference. We have already seen elections where a Tea Party candidate ran as an independent challenger to the Republican because the Republican wasn't a True Conservative. The fact that this handed the election to a Democrat didn't matter: THE ESTABLISHMENT REPUBLICAN WASN'T A REAL CONSERVATIVE, DAMN IT! And of course it is the zelots who get out and vote in the primaries in the first place, so these bat-$hit crazy candidates keep getting nominated and even the rank-and-file Republican can't stomach voting for them. As long as you have Rush and Beck calling the faithfull to arms, Republicans are going to be screwed.

      •  I have always wondered if... (0+ / 0-)

Progressives biggest disadvantage in winning elections is the fact that we just aren't willing to be cutthroat.  I am a Southerner by birth reared by a Bircher step father.  So I've seen it from the inside out.

The end of the modern Republican party is coming from the fact that the bircher, tea party, funcamentalists basically all are paranoid true believers.  Their biggest problem is that they don't all believe exactly the same thing and thus don't really trust each other.  Probably shouldn't.

The little southern town I grew up in had a bazillion little churches cause about thirty believers would get together and start a church, then half of them would get pissed off over some interpretation of a meaningless bible verse and here they go off to create another church-half as big and twice as pitiful (Not to mention that few can carry a tune.  Made for some painful hymnal experiences.)

Our lack of aggressiveness has allowed this whole thing with the Tea Party to drag on and avoid its natural state because we haven't been hateful enough to go out and try to drive wedges between these clowns, that given enough time, develops naturally.

But so be it.  Even Roger fucking Ailes can't hold this mental ward together.  They will be at each other's throats cause that's who they are and what they do.  That's why the Republicans always have to demonize a Democratic President.  Only Beezlebub himself is scary enough to these people to keep them from rending the flesh of their own pitiful compatriots.

Barring their ability to scuttle the economy, which admittedly may be hoping for too much, they will tear each other apart.

Obama and Michelle's basic decency is the Tea Party's worst enemy.  God damn it they are both Kenyan Marxist Commie Nazis and I hate them almost as much as I do that Rove guy.
