  •  I still feel that some sort of experience (10+ / 0-)

in the area you are trying to govern is beneficial.  If they are truly concerned about local schools, may I suggest they might be of more assistance as a classroom volunteer or volunteering to drive the activity bus or volunteering as an assistant coach or trainer?  Schools are usually universally in need of volunteers.
I remember sponsoring FBLA chapter and the difficulty in finding business people willing to come in and share their expertise with the students.  I would strongly suggest someone seeking to help the local schools would better serve the needs of the schools by volunteering their time and expertise.  If the goal is to stroke their own egos and to advance their own ideological agendas, then they should run for school board as soon as they unpack the Peekapoo and place Aunt Agnes' ashes on their new mantlepiece

      And well, yes:

If the goal is to stroke their own egos and to advance their own ideological agendas,
For the CEO/business types who think they're going to "come in and shape things up so the schools will operate more efficiently...blah blah blah freakin' blah" ego-stroking and agenda-spreading is exactly what's afoot.  And that's where the voters come into play, per markthshark just below our chat here...

    •  The voters should bear this in mind (7+ / 0-)

When voting, but alas we live in a society where major political parties get their scientific information from science fiction novelists and priests.

I wouldn't vote for some CEO with no education experience, particularly one from out of state.

But they have as much right to run as anyone.
