  •  Wow, is that another one of his accomplishments? (1+ / 0-)

I guess it insofar as he's the first POTUS to die in office.  From that.  That's tough to top, I suppose, so yeah - big accomplishment!

Anyways, I suppose that with such awesome hair, who WOULD wear a hat?

    •  The three hour address didn't help either (1+ / 0-)

The Whig scheme in 1836 was pretty dastardly, use regional candidates to deny the Democrat a majority in the Electoral College and let the House pick the president.

Van Buren won outright, though, and Democrats controlled the House.  Other than that, it was a brilliant plan.

There is truth on all sides. The question is how much.

so I'm not counting that 3 hour speech among his accomplishments!

        •  The more I think about that 1836 strategy (1+ / 0-)

The more I think the Republicans could have used it in 2012.  Run two candidates, one a conservative who only runs and wins in the traditional GOP states and the other a moderate midwesterner or Huntsman type who only runs in the Midwest and on the coasts to pick off some Democratic states.  Deny BO a majority in the Electoral College and let the gerrymandered House pick whoever they want.

There is truth on all sides. The question is how much.

his insistence on walking from the inauguration to the white house in freezing weather, to prove how tough he was, and that he wasn't old and weak.
