It's a little like saying that Little League baseball prepares individuals for the military.

I was in scouts, and you don't hear anyone saying scouting trained me to be a stay at home Dad.  Okay, so I was only in scouts for a day, and they had to give me a garbage bag poncho.

    •  Little League's mission (0+ / 0-)

is not to prepare players for the military.  The BSA's mission has that as a primary goal.  And, considering the disproportionate percentage of academy students, the ultimate intention for whom it is to be the future leaders of the military, who are BSA alumni, it is a goal achieved.

It is therefore essential to the future esprit de corp of the military that the BSA's objectives be aligned with those of the military.

      •  It doesn't matter what the goal is (0+ / 0-)

Saying that someone was "in scouts" is pretty flexible.

If I had a questionnaire that asked me that question, I'd answer that I was in scouts.

It wouldn't be an indication of anything other than the fact that millions of kids do scouts.

I don't think their policy change goes far enough, and I can certainly appreciate the connection made in the answer.  I just don't find the answer to be as argument ending as it seems to want to be.
