    While Baden-Powell's initial reasons may have been valid in 19th century England, the modern BSA has evolved considerably since then to the point that military service preparation is irrelevent.  I was very active in scouting for 12 years or so (a long time ago) as Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Ass't Scoutmaster, and such a thing was never even hinted at.

    The reason for ending the ban on gay members in the BSA is because it is bigoted and stupid.  The reasons are emotional, and cannot be overcome by logic.

      The story in the diary highlights the issue that the BSA maintains close relations with and receives significant support from the US military.  The end of DADT really does put additional pressure on the BSA to change.
