I'm well older than you, and I remember when PC wasn't even called PC.  When people just wanted respect no matter what.

Then the term came along and it was cool (to use your vernacular).  Then it morphed.  And got out of hand.  Suddenly, nobody could say anything without offending someone.  And that's when the right-wing used it as an epithet.

We need to find the balance.  We will offend somebody somewhere in the world no matter what we say.

What bothers me is when people deliberately say or write something that they know is offensive.

Brief anecdote.  When I was working to get my Master's Degree in counseling, we had a class in group therapy.  One of the other students was a woman in her late twenties who was somewhat prim and proper.  And she had a particular hatred of the term "broad" being used to describe a female.

One of the other students took it upon himself to use the term all the time.  When the rest of us challenged him, he said he used it to help her get over her feelings about that term.

So was she wrong to feel offended, or was he wrong to try to force her to adapt?

Goes to show the fine line.

OTOH, I know that sometimes people use language here because they are so full of rage at what they see happening in the world aroudn us, and I don't really have a problem with that.  I do have a problem with direct name calling however.  Won't stop me from being here though.

Bush, so incompetent, he can't even do the wrong things right.
