  •  Does this mean I can watch the next Eastwood (10+ / 0-)

movie with a clear conscience? If he knowingly helped tank Romney does that mean he's on our side?

What's wrong with America? I'll tell you. Everything Romney said was pre-chewed wads of cud from Republicans from the last 30 years and yet he managed thru a combination of racism and selling the (false) hope of riches to get 47% of the national vote.

    •  A good film stands on its own (5+ / 0-)

His politics don't matter, he's still among the greatest American directors alive.

That's why I find this a truly bizarre diary. This guy has had a career that has spanned 60+ years . He's made 100s of millions for himself and billions for others. He started off in basic working class family and...

      His early life

Eastwood was born in San Francisco, to Clinton Eastwood, Sr. (1906–70), a steelworker and migrant worker, and Margaret Ruth (Runner) Eastwood (1909–2006), a factory worker.[3] He was nicknamed "Samson" by the hospital nurses as he weighed 11 pounds 6 ounces (5.2 kg) at birth.[4][5][6] Eastwood is of English, Irish, Scottish, and Dutch ancestry[3][7] and was raised in a working class home with his younger sister, Jeanne (born 1934).[8][9] His family moved often as his father worked at jobs along the West Coast.[10][11] The family finally settled in Piedmont, California, where Eastwood attended Piedmont Junior High School.[12] Shortly before he was to enter Piedmont High School, he rode his bike on the school's sports field and tore up the wet turf; this resulted in his being asked not to enroll.[13] Instead, he attended Oakland Technical High School, where the drama teachers encouraged him to take part in school plays. However, Eastwood was not interested. He worked at a number of jobs, including lifeguard, paper carrier, grocery clerk, forest firefighter, and golf caddy.[14]
So he spends the first 16 years of his life in the middle of the depression and WW11 , he is raised in what can only be described as working class family which is supposedly the Dems base, he goes on and works in a very tough and competitive environment to the point where his early career he was laughed at by the Very Serious People, for his spaghetti westerns and  his Dirty Harry Character. Yet he is directing in those same years and producing. Then after 64 years of living he directs and acts in the Unforgiven and gets academy awards. He becomes an actor's director since he understands them the best and doesn't do a take 30 times. He makes controversial films. He is a jazz Musician.

He goes on a stage without a script in front of millions with a empty chair as a prop (remember props?) at the age 82 years of age and somehow people here actually took that seriously to the point where there was diaries entitled " Eastwood is dead to me" and this bizarre diary that is trying to minimize someone who was truly self-made in the twilight of his years. He may have voted GOP , but then he realized like many it was all bullshit.  You only have to see where he stood on every issue today and see why Romney's team made a huge fuck-up. Eastwood? He doesn't give a shit. He's proved himself time and time again. He's terrific entertainer who wasn't scared to go against the grain.

Then there is this diary trying to somehow make him look foolish for taking stands like below and showing up at a GOP convention. Obama couldn't have had it work out this well if he had planned it himself. Why?  here are some of the stands he has made politically...

He has disapproved of America's wars in Korea (1950–1953), Vietnam (1964–1973), Afghanistan (2001–present), and Iraq (2003–2011), believing that the United States should not be overly militaristic or play the role of global policeman.[287][288][289] He considers himself "too individualistic to be either right-wing or left-wing",[290] describing himself in 1974 as "a political nothing" and "a moderate"[285] and in 1997 as a "libertarian".[291] "I don't see myself as conservative," Eastwood has stated, while noting in the same breath that he isn't "ultra-leftist", either.[292] At times, he has supported Democrats in California, including Senator Dianne Feinstein in 1994,[293][294] liberal United States House of Representatives member Sam Farr in 2002,[295] and Governor Gray Davis, whom he voted for in 1998 and 2002 and hosted pricey fundraisers for in 2002 and 2003.[296] A self-professed "liberal on civil rights",[285] Eastwood has stated that he is pro-choice on abortion.[291] He has endorsed same-sex marriage[292][297] and contributed to groups supporting the Equal Rights Amendment for women, which failed to receive ratification in 1982.[298]
So Romney's group fails to look at his past and so did the diarist today. Who got fooled again?
