There have been times when we've had boots on the ground who knew the person in question.  Can that go wrong?  Sure.  There are some situations where I'm okay with it, but I certainly understand those who think it should all go away.

Can you call yourself a real liberal if you aren't reading driftglass?

      •  my feeling is that if others want it to "go (8+ / 0-)

away" - then close out of the diary.

there are times i question, then i make up my own mind whether to give or not.  it is rare that i will not give when i can.  i know from personal experience what it is like to find oneself in sudden, desperate circumstances that sound too wild to believe.

those circumstances are in the past - i didn't know this site then.  i shared the experience as it unfolded on another site to have  a very ugly poster start taking that experience and flat out lying about what occurred.  i left the website permanently because those lies were out there for anyone to read and "believe".

i don't accuse others - i will make up my own mind and act accordingly with words of support, personal contact, funds (when i can).  i have never felt scammed, even when the situation described was not entirely as presented.

why does anyone need to "prove" to this community what is a personal choice by members here?  why should they have to be publically humiliated by being forced to submit for approval when the circumstances they are buried under are already crushing their spirit.

as i said, if i ever have doubts (and, in the past, i have and those doubts turned out valid), i watch, wait, read, talk to and engage the person who reaches out.  in that way, finding a way to help is easy.

for the catfish (like the nephew), time exposes that poster.  we don't need to be "compassionate conservatives" on this site - by that i mean, talking the talk but not backing it up when faced with the crises presented to us.

some donate to charities.  some donate to organizations. some give directly.  it is a personal choice, not a "community" one, each time someone acts.

and, quite frankly, i don't understand why some are so adamant that these types of person interactions should "go away".  it is no skin off their teeth to do nothing.  why would they object to others doing so?

i don't need anyone "protecting" me.  as a friend has recently described me (i like it) - i am valkurie - i don't NEED no stinking protection!  i am perfectly capable of taking care of myself (and, if that means reaching out for help, i can do that, too!)

    •  why does it matter? is $5 more the issue or the (4+ / 0-)

ego that feels "taken" for a measly five bucks?  i'm sure the great wine you're enjoying cost more than that.

btw, label?  i love good wine and like to get recommendations from folks i respect.
