  •  There's a huge difference between Snowmagedoen (2+ / 0-)

    and Nemo.   Names that organically grow out of shared experiences after the fact are useful as historical markers.  The Weather Channel's attempts to impose naming upon storms does no such thing.

    The Weather Channel by assuming the authority to be "the naming convention" for winter storms is usurping the authority of the National Weather Service.  Not good.  This IMO is as bad as Accuweather issuing weather alerts and warnings on their own.  Twice Accuweather pushed out Tornado warnings locally when there was no tornado or even rotation on the radar to warrent them, leading to panic and confusion.

      Why would you want to start the first major Nor'easter beginning with the letter N? The whole process is amazingly stupid.
