That is something a lot of people don't understand about the church.  Those of us who are fortunate enough to have found a parish that "fits" experience the real, full depth and breadth of a faith community.  If my parish closes, I doubt that I'll look elsewhere.  No other place in town has the feeling of family that my parish does.

the Catholic Worker/CPF folks -- well, at least since I worked for CPF for a while after college.  As a Buddhist agnostic now, I feel totally out of place at Mass or even just being inside a Catholic church.  But I plan to start volunteering at the closest Catholic Worker next month and I fully expect to feel at home there.

at our church.  We are a working poor parish with lots of enthusiasm in place of money.  There is no pretense with us.  We tend to "pick up strays" which is part of what attracted me to the parish after a long hiatus from church life.  There is no telling what kind of characters will walk in the door on Sunday morning, but whoever it is, they are "ours" from the get-go.  :-)
