NJ has a Republican governor.  Chairmanship, sure.  Seat, hell no.

And there would be a special election held in November to fill his seat for next five years.  Christie could name a replacement - but one has to imagine Booker would run and be a sure win.

far worse things and stuck it out.  Larry Craig had a massively embarassing incident that made everyone laugh at him for months, but he served out the last of his term.  How about McCain and the Keating 5 scandal?

Just if it gets worse and provable and he HAS to, then it's not the end of the world that Christie gets to name his replacement as it would only be until November.

of a large contributor, not even a New Jersey resident, in ways that may have crossed the line.  Not to mention only paying for free trips provided by that contributor when he got called on it.

          A different kettle of fish.

      •  It would not be smart for Gov. Christie... (0+ / 0-)

To name a Republican replacement in an election year. He would probably prefer to name an obvious placeholder, probably a moderate Democrat or independent who is either little-known or highly regarded in the state -- someone who wouldn't run in the special election.
