  •  Yeah, there's a lot of stuff (9+ / 0-)

along the lines of "she's not worth supporting", "DINO", "hurts a progressive agenda", etc.

To that, I say get real.  She or another moderate Democrat is the best we're realistically going to get in Louisiana, and we don't have many opportunities in 2014 to get a more liberal senator elsewhere to make up for losing her.

    •  We would be stupid (9+ / 0-)

to give up on any seat anywhere where the Democrat is leading by 10 points.

    •  Sigh, it hit the main page. (10+ / 0-)

      It was bound to happen.

I'm personally more nuanced. I won't lie and say I'm not concerned about what Landrieu will do on issues like gun safety and climate change. I'm just hoping the broad public support for action will compel her to at least be somewhat amenable.

But really, what can we expect from a Louisiana Senator? The FP'ers need to remember that Mary Landrieu can't get away with running as an Elizabeth Warren clone in Louisiana.

      •  That's just it. (4+ / 0-)

It doesn't seem like they do. Some of them would probably like it if the Democrats were the permanent minority, as long as the Dems that were elected were 'pure'. Only problem is you can't get anything done in the minority, and a 'pure' Democratic majority is not possible. Go down South and into Appalachia and convert the majority of voters into progressive Democrats, and then we can talk about getting rid of conservadem officeholders.

These people are the Democratic version of the Tea Party. Luckily, they haven't hijacked the entire party, as the Tea Party has to the Republicans.

        •  In my personal defense... (0+ / 0-)

I'm fine with moderate Dems in the Senate and House I just don't like how Matheson goes about his specific brand of "moderation" (ignoring the Utah Dems entirely instead of building them up, not blazing his own path like Landrieu or McCaskill). I am totally okay with even Joe Machin.

Yup. And the people I know who are trying to turn Appalachia progressive are not so interested in electoral politics.
