    how Louisiana, although it is a deep south state and has a very racist history, has had such ethnic diversity among their elected officials.  Several Jews, including Lt. Gov. Dardenne and way back in the day Sen. Judah Benjamin, the first "openly Jewish" Senator.  Numerous Catholics (although that is thanks in part to LA's large Catholic population) - although Catholic elected officials were reviled by most of America for much of history.  The Lebanese, Ieyoub as you mentioned, as well as Rep. Chris John, and so many French people.  And of course, Gov. Jindal.
