  •  I don't reckon that'll buy me much RKBA credit, (0+ / 0-)

but I do think if it can stop an unbalanced murderer from achieving his rampage, it's not beyond reason to consider.

    •  I don't have an issue with the NICS (1+ / 0-)

      being fully implemented either.

I think, unless we're careful, we might write new property laws which could have far-reaching consequences if we prohibit ALL transfers of personal property, unless government approved.
So the "immediate family" exemption may have to stand.

If Cho, Loughner and Hughes were all told "NO" at the retail point-of-sale; AND if the attempted purchase was followed-up by law enforcement, and/or mental health services seeking to actively intervene?  We'd have a lot better handle on spree shootings.

That said, I believe Hughes would have used bombs to carry out his murderous intent.

Lanza?  That's a case too new, too devoid of facts beyond my "gut" which is the family knew too well that he shouldn't be in=possession of firearms, but that the mother herself didn't have a real good grasp on reality either.

To be honest, we used-to take guns from people like that, and we knew it was illegal.
It would however compel a court appearance, and every now and then the judge would look-over the inventory and select what was "ok" and what wasn't:
"Pick a handgun Mrs. Lanza, and you can take your shotgun too.  The rest are ordered to be sold by a dealer or surrendered to the County for disposition."

Her RKBA was diminished, but not eliminated.
It may have made zero difference in Newtown.
