When I applied for VA medical benefits it only took a few hours of paperwork before I was able to schedule a full battery of tests on my heart and lungs. It took me a couple of weeks to get a copy of my DD214 but not long at all to go through the application process. It took over a year and getting my congress critter involved to finally receive my service connected disability payments.

I don't believe this vet can't get medical treatments from the VA. However, his family wouldn't get the healthcare they need and deserve after his service. I'm sure he will eventually receive VA disability payments which can be up to almost $3000/mo for 100% service connected disability. It's not really a pension but it's enough to pay some bills.

Really don't mind if you sit this one out. My words but a whisper -- your deafness a SHOUT. I may make you feel but I can't make you think..Jethro Tull
