But please this man was a SEAL, there are father figures assigned to them.

And really there are entire cultures thriving without a "father figure" in sight.

and you will note that I FIRST (PRIOR TO MENTIONING HIS OWN FATHER (figure), discussed that the military training should have included non-violent alternatives. THAT was my real point, that was intended to be my main point, and quite honestly, I went back and added the comment about the "father figure" when I was thinking about my dad who is very ill right now and what he would have said to me. That was where my comment was coming from. I love my dad. I love my mom too. In many ways, my mom is much stronger than my dad. But my dad is ill. He might have cancer. My mom is well. I have been a little overly focused on his role in my life... but I am speaking to my mom 1 to 5 times a day. She is giving me the strength I need right now.

Again, I am dearly sorry for any offense.

        Your comments are spot-on.

Best wishes to you in managing your father's illness.

(Btw, many SEALs do not in fact have father-figures -- especially once they leave the military. See the article on the SEAL who killed OBL:  It sounds like his wife has been a huge source of stability -- even though they're now separated.)
