  •  Why enforcement fails (9+ / 0-)

One reason why gun regulations have failed (to reduce crime and gun violence) is because of concerted purposeful efforts by the gun industry to prevent the passage of effective legislation and weaken both existing legislation and enforcement agencies.

Gun enthusiasts are very much like onservative republicans who complain that government is not the answer.  Conservatives republicans block new laws from getting passed and hold up funding for the enforcement of existing laws.  The conservatives then say: "see, big governtmne tprograms don't work".

Ultimately, for sane gun policy in this country, we need to end a system of government that allows the corporations and wealthy people from buying the law-makers and the laws that favor the corporations and wealthy.  Right now, we have the gun industry essentially writing the gun policy for the country - which of course means selling more guns around the country (for the greater profits of the gun industry).  At the same time, funding for actual enforcement of existing laws is cut back (because "big government doesn't work" ha! ha!).  The result: more guns, more shootings, and more gun injuries.
