i guess one man's bargain is another man's betrayal.  i personally see obama's putting social security and medicare "on the table" as a betrayal.  i will be depending on those programs at some point in the future and i am deeply concerned that those programs, whose benefits are pretty parsimonious as it stands will be made even less effective by economic conditions and further cuts going forward.  these programs need to improved, not "strengthened" (to use the term obama uses when he feels like equivocating about it).

i suppose that if you're independently wealthy and have no worries about your pension fund being robbed blind by a bunch of wall street crooks who operate with "obama immunity," then it's a bargain.

    •  "obama immunity" - banksters getting off scot-free (6+ / 0-)

      Well phrased, joe.

Under Obama's watch, Wall Streeters not only do not face criminal investigations, but get invited to the WH.

And in the other area, of course, that I talk about a great deal, not a word about accountability for the banksters who caused the crisis.

Not a single word. They are going to get off scot-free.

That policy is going to continue. Indeed, if you listen carefully, he attacked the regulators, the banking regulators, said that there are too many banking regulations and they are—he claimed they were preventing the recovery of the nation by preventing sound lending, which, again, is ludicrous.
It is the Republican meme on all of this, and, you know, the Ruben—which is essentially a Republican lens on all of these issues as well.

take a peek at the michael hudson article (debt and democracy) that i excerpted above.  he does a really good job of explaining how throughout time creditors have managed to seize control of governments and cause everything from excessive human misery to the fall of civilizations.

what we're experiencing is nothing new, in fact, it's the same old story ever since man learned to exploit his fellow men.
