don't get it.  Maybe I have to see the whole speech

I got things to do and it's late.  Is this really what we're talking about now?

    •  Yes, and no (8+ / 0-)

This was supposed to be the debut of the R's great Hispanic Hope-- and it was an epic FAIL.

One of the most singular, choice political suicide moments one could ever hope for, a moment that crystallized the encompassing ineptitude and emptiness of the Republican Party.

    •  I think taken in the context of the speech (3+ / 0-)

it was quite a jarring moment.  He seemed nervous, he was spouting either lies or boilerplate, he kept trying to smear the scum off the corner of his mouth, and then he lurches for a water bottle like a 14 year old trying to sneak a quick gulp of wine at a wedding.

I agree there are more important things, like policy, but you can't be a Presidential contender if you look like you are selling something on late-night TV. Josh Marshall at TPM once wrote a post on "bitch slap politics" and even though I don't much like that term, there's a certain amount of truth to it - one has to enter that highest level of politics with a certain gravitas and exceedingly well honed self-control.  That was not on display here.
