  •  There are times where I've advocated (4+ / 0-)

    doing something totally violent and vengeful to someone. But those times have been either personal to me or to someone else involved (i.e. "Had I been Fred Goldman, I would have shot O.J. Simpson to death on the courthouse steps" or "If someone rapes my wife, I will kill him without hesitation," etc). Moreover, I KNOW those acts would be entirely and completely outlaw, outside the bounds of the law and of civilized behavior.

    I don't think the cops torched the house, I think this whole diary is bullshit. But I don't think the cops have any right to torch a house to kill the fugitive inside except in extreme circumstances. The death of Robert Jay Mathews and his cohorts may meet the "extreme circumstances" caveat.

    (Sidebar: I wrote that entry on Mathews, and I'm going to do more research. I'd like to know more details about that final standoff.)
