why I unsubscribed to TruthOut. Their "Obama is legions worse than Bush/Cheney" stance just finally tired me out.

    •  The administration selectively continues with... (12+ / 0-)

...some of the more reprehensible policies of the Bush administration(s). And, as it's been noted by MANY in the press and in the blogosphere, of late, if there was a Republican administration in the White House right now, the mainstream Democratic blogosphere and press would be screaming at the top of their lungs. The hypocrisy runs deep these days.

    •  eesh... you can NOT stick your head in the sand (9+ / 0-)

and pretend this is all a pack of vicious lies to bring down the President.

That is NOT the purpose of these thoughts.

Obama himself has stated that we MUST push back in order to form our "more Perfect Union."

The US as it has evolved over the past decade is not my idea of a more Perfect Union. It has fallen and we have to pick it up and restore the balance.

      •  It is not a lie; it is the truth. (0+ / 0-)

But, it is also not new. American culture has always been abusive. It just used to be more selective about the targets. Now, the push for equality has given the abusers lief to abuse everyone equally.
It does no good to be horrified and wring one's hands. The AUMF called for the use of military force against scary persons. That's what the President is doing.  While it is possible to jiggle some funds or not spend as much as approved, funds cannot be spent for unauthorized programs. The Congress has reviewed tortured interrogations and approved. The Congress refuses to pay for the relocation of persons (detainees and personnel) at Guantanamo. If you have a beef, look to Congress. How many human rights champions took on Joe Wilson, Paul Broun, Phil Gingery and Michelle Bachmann?
Some Americans are blood-thristy. Being abused tends to do that to people. If they can't avenge themselves on their abusers, they take it out on someone else. To top it all off, most people have been convinced that obedience is a virtue when, in fact, coerced obedience is the very essence of abuse.
The culture of obedience. It sets the stage for human husbandry--the exploitation of humans by their own kind. That places man on the lowest rungs of organic life. Truly an exceptional creature.

We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.
