I do so in English. And I find it embarrassing. I can speak minimal, passable German and a few words of Spanish but because of the way I was taught (focusing on reading and speech and not much on listening) it's tough to hold a real conversation in any language but my own. Anyone from any non-English-speaking nation who can converse with me at any level is worth my respect because they can do something I cannot. There are certain parts of Europe I can travel to where the locals speak far better English (despite it not being their native tongue) than do most of the people I know who were born right here in the US of A. The fact that we have so little respect for the cultures of other nations is one of our most serious defects.
