    probably shared by others.

    Some users always cast the term meta in a negative light since they don't like, for various reasons, discussions about the site itself. Period.

    Others really misuse the term meta for any discussion that becomes heated or even where there's much strong political disagreement.  If the discussion of a particular topic devolves into an argument about appropriate conventions and rules then it could be altered into partly meta at that point though the diary and topics themselves may not be.

    Used correctly, meta is actually a more objective term, as here.

    It is very confusing for many users I think and I know that it took me a while, even years ago when I first began reading here, to sort it all out.

    More: Some men think the Earth is round, others think it flat; it is a matter capable of question. But if it is flat, will the King's command make it round? And if it is round, will the King's command flatten it?
