effective device, and maybe an effective survival tool today as well, but too often we become sidetracked from the absurdity of the message itself.  I laughed at him and enjoyed it, but I think your point is very well taken that it would serve all of us on the left to hone our skills in bringing the humor home to highlight the underlying hyprocrisy and even nihilism of the Republican message.

The more I think about it the more important I think that it is, especially for the more important voices on the left, to achieve that skill.

I know that I and so many others like me can't take seriously what were essentially detached rightwing cliches, but since Romney received 47% of the vote in what I think had to be the worst presidential campaign in history, I worry a lot about the future.  We had a clean win in November, but 47% is still a frighteningly large number.

We've long been concerned with the weaknesses in Democratic and allies' messaging; perhaps we should give more thought to the role of humor in achieving rebuttals.

More: Some men think the Earth is round, others think it flat; it is a matter capable of question. But if it is flat, will the King's command make it round? And if it is round, will the King's command flatten it?
