    some older workers have been out of work for five years or longer, caught between a rock and a hard place, because no one will hire them and they are not yet old enough to qualify for regular Social Security or Medicare.
    Like being thrown on the trash heap. All the work I did, all the learning curves I've climbed, the skills gained and honed, worthless. A wasted life.
    people who lost their jobs in the few years before becoming eligible for Social Security, also lost up to three years from their life expectancy, largely because they no longer had access to affordable health care.
    At least it won't drag on, I guess.
