Now we know why they always bring up marrying animals in the gay marriage debate.

    •  How very... Roman of them. (5+ / 0-)

      4th down, and very NSFW!

I don't blame Christians. I blame Stupid. Which sadly is a much more popular religion these days.

      •  Hey, that is one of my favorite pieces. (3+ / 0-)

It is absolutely brilliant art. Especially when you remind yourself that art is supposed to elicit an emotional response. That piece evokes a cascade of emotions undoubtedly.

Interesting, his sign compares abortion to having sex with Satan. Someone is fantasizing over that Pan/goat statue.

          educate your children about sex.

Irresponsible parents cause most of the sexual dysfunction this country faces.

with information that is entirely or nearly entirely wrong, and class huge swaths of possible activities under 'so wrong we're not even going to let you know it exists, and then just let you make accidental innuendos the rest of your life because you won't know what you are unintentionally saying, but that's okay because Jesus'.

Wise as snakes, innocent as doves, people. Matthew 10:16, in the words in red. Just because you know about it, and possibly understand how to do it, doesn't mean you WILL ever do it. It just means you'll know what's actually being referred to and be able to know for yourself whether or not it fits within your moral code (and unfortunately, the possibility of developing the capability to make that kind of moral code judgment is one of the reasons they won't educate properly) and personal desires (another issue - on the one hand you aren't supposed to figure out you have likes that make the pastor twitch, and on the other hand you aren't supposed to say 'I don't want that' to things the pastor says EVERYONE is supposed to do - the largest example is that someone can use personal repulsion against a homosexual act as a justification against gay people and meanwhile anyone with revulsion towards another act is just supposed to bear it because personal distaste for heterosexual sex isn't allowed).

Prayers and best wishes to those in Japan.

              •  I got mine through the SBC. (3+ / 0-)

They got preteens to sign abstinence pledges before they knew more than the most basic sexual biology of themselves. We were so young when we signed ours that I wouldn't be surprised if some of the girls there hadn't reached menarche yet.

And I still got odd looks for how fast I signed, because even when ALL you're supposed to know about premarital sex is 'you will die from STDs', 'you WILL get pregnant', 'God doesn't want you to', and 'any boyfriend who really loves you will wait (but we're not telling you what the others will do when you say no)' - it's still possible to sign an abstinence pledge too fast, because that might be a sign you aren't actually pledging to avoid something you might honestly want to do.

It was a 'what the hell are you adults on, I did what you wanted so why look at me funny?' moment at the time, but now it makes a lot of sense. (Which was followed by another batch of judgment when I wouldn't turn it in, because I'd been told not to give contact information to strangers. The card had contact information and the True Love Waits office staff were strangers.)

And yet, if we'd been signing a lifetime pledge against gay sexual activity? They'd have been seriously questioning anyone who DIDN'T sign one that fast.

Prayers and best wishes to those in Japan.

Gay marriage became an issue I thought it was about denying LGBT's sex. Since it says no sex till marriage and then no marriage for LGBT's.

He considered marriage or an equivalent level of legal and social commitment to be a prereq for sex.

All the gay guys he knew of that he was even vaguely interested in either had personally decided total permanent celibacy was required or had completely given up on the possibility of recognized legal commitment. Or would have completely rejected him to start with for still identifying as a Christian.

But the intended targets of the pledges are, at least officially, the heterosexual kids. We were explicitly told to keep our half of the card safe... so we could hand it to our husbands as part of our wedding ceremonies someday, to show we'd been 'pure'. In front of God and everyone. (I'm pretty sure the boys weren't told the reverse. Actually, I'm not even sure what they did in Sunday School that day - they may not have even been given an opportunity to sign pledges.)

Combined with the fact a lot of the groups that do the pledges are also after No Sexual Thoughts Before Marriage (seriously, there are cases where engagements nearly broke because of bridal guilt at fantasizing about the upcoming wedding night), it puts extreme behavioral and psychological limits on anyone who can't find a marriageable partner - whether because they're an orientation that can't wed in that church or legal jurisdiction or because of simply not finding someone.

Prayers and best wishes to those in Japan.
