No disrespect to any of the movements or groups listed above. Our "crazies" are just more leftist, and not crazy at all. Except for a few of the anarchist groups that hang around the left fringe of the Dems, we don't have the crazies that seem to infest the Republican right.

      It really does help.

Never, ever forget that the person who said of the GOP, "We create our own reality" wasn't some wild-eyed teabagger. It was (probably) Karl Rove.

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."........ "The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little." (yeah, same guy.)

We have very few people who think the UN is going to take over and impose martial law.

Economics is a social *science*. Can we base future economic decisions on math?

    •  I think your reference to the anarchists and... (0+ / 0-)

other crazies who hang out left of the Dems is a good analogy to where the Tea Party is probably going to be after a schism.

Republicans clearly have some divergent groups in their camp, and Democrats now have a very big tent.  But there are still many viewpoints---far left, far right and neither here nor there---not really covered by either of the major political parties.  Anarchists, Marxists, fascists, greens, racial separatist groups to name a few.  If the Republican establishment really drives out the far-right "libertarian" Tea Party element, those guys will be left (a) angry and (b) fairly broke.  That's not a viable third party; that's a group left out in the cold.
