  •  I don't know if... (4+ / 0-)

..Hagel is a warmongering teabagger but he is a right wing asshole that Obama is using to rob a deserving Democrat of the SOD position.

The real loser in all this theatrical absurdity is Barack Obama.

Some qualified Democrat who is loyal to the party is left floundering while Obama has his political acumen intertwined with some right wing dud (Hagel) who has become fodder in a right wing game of who can best impress Ted Nugent.

    •  Disagree that it hurts Obama (7+ / 0-)

Obama put out a qualified candidate and Republicans are pissing all over themselves with unprecedented pettiness.

Obama looks like the adult compared to the childishness of the Republicans.

      •  It suggests that precompromise is unwise (0+ / 0-)

It appears that the idea was that if he nominated a Republican to the post, the Republicans would play ball.  It hurts Obama in some quarters in that it shows that Obama doesn't seem to have learned that precompromise to show good faith gets him exactly nothing from these guys.

So, Hagel can go to lunch with Susan Rice, while Obama looks for another nominee.
