    The militarization of police forces in the country is a threat to life and liberty.  It may be understandable given that cops can possibly face very well-armed threats, given our lack of gun regulation.  But it is a threat to the expression of dissent or even driving the wrong brand of pickup truck.

    In Europe, cops are not nearly so over-armed as they are here.  And they are way less likely to shoot first and ask questions later.  The number of ridiculously over-the-top cop reactions to misperceived threats even in the last few months testifies to some issues.

    Wouldn't it be wonderful if we lived in a much less violent society where citizens weren't armed to the teeth and cops didn't shoot two women delivering papers merely because they were driving in a Japanese-made pickup?

      with no reference as to how to actually get there. Bottom line is that some legislative strategy is essential to reach the scenario that you describe.
